Wave-free motions of isolated bodies and the existence of motion trapped modes

D.V. Evans & R. Porter (submitted to J. Fluid Mech.)

Advantage is taken of the fact that a circular cylinder in forced time-harmonic two-dimensional heave or sway motion of small amplitude is capable of creating a local flow field in which no waves radiate to infinity to generate examples of motion trapped modes in the linearised water wave problem.
